A.C.E. ACCESS TO OPPORTUNITYAPPROACH2/6

A2O Approach

A.C.E.'s educational philosophy is characterized by a practical, hands-on approach to learning. Our goal in the Access to Opportunity programs is to complement existing programs in local K-12 schools, colleges and workforce training programs. It is apparent that huge disparities in educational levels continue to exist between the majority population and large numbers of limited English proficient populations in the Western Washington region. In some cases, community leaders have estimated that as much as 95% of their community's adults are illiterate or semi-literate. Dropout rates for some ethnic populations in this region approach 85%. Educational measures in place are inadequate to meet the need and at the same time government funding for programs is in crisis. It is imperative that non-profit organizations and community members step up efforts to assist members of the community who are struggling to function in society. Yet without basic language skills, no amount of goodwill is enough to enable people to become self sufficient and to achieve their full potential. A.C.E. is stepping in to address this issue so that populations with critical needs in language and educational skill development can overcome barriers and have access to opportunity. A crucial component of every A.C.E. program is collaborative learning in partnership with each community's trusted sources. In addition, A.C.E. offers a unique breadth of professional expertise in intensive language and culture education which can ensure success in any educational endeavor.
